effects of antenatal exercise on psychological well being... March 15, 2004 For me a particular strenght of this book is that I can see the evidence for myself and have been able to form an opinion of the reliability and generallisability of the finding. this is sometimes a weakness in journal articles. On a positive note, although it was not Rankins intention to produce a first class guide to midwifery research - this is exactly what she has produced. Therefore it is a most informative, user friendly, book to use.

i am a midwidery student with a personal interest on the effects of exercise during pregnancy. I chose to research this topic as part of a course project. Exercise during pregnancy is not a well documented subject so to find a whole book dedicated to the study was great. This book details the results of a research study, which the author personally carried out, and is a fascinating read for those with an interest in exercise during pregnancy. It will also make the reader an advocate for encouraging women to exercise during their pregnancy.
Antenatal Exercise September 26, 2002 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book, part of a scientific research series, focuses on the effect that antenatal exercise has on psychological well being, pregnacy and birth outcome. It provides a comprehensive review of the literature to date. In particular, there is a very interesting and easy to read section on the history of exercise in obstetrics throughout the centuries. There is a section on the practicalities of exercise classes and the author describes the physiological and anatomical changes that occur during pregnancy. The study itself is detailed, well controlled and addresses the gaps in many previous exercise studies. Overall, I found this a very easy to read book and recommend it for anyone interested in the field of exercise during and following pregnancy.
