5 out of 5 stars the best GTA to date   October 8, 2008
Its simple, if you have played any of the GTA series then this is a must buy.

Its truely a great game, a few bugs but that does not take anything away from it. The protagonist is believable and so is the situation.

You start off as a Russian immigrant to Liberty City who comes over to start a new life with fat cousin. His cousin boasts about all the women, cars and houses he has so you willingly go over to the US but you find out that its loads of rubbish. You decide that you have to fight for a living and everything starts from there.

Its worth the money, its a great game.

2 out of 5 stars Takes itself far too seriously, with mediocre graphics   October 7, 2008
I loved all the previous GTA games, going right back to the very first one on PC! I couldn't wait to get my hands on this one...

When I eventually started playing, I was in awe at the sheer size of this game. There are lots of things you can do - go on dates (queue mini-games), use a mobile phone, wander into various shops, meet friends and of course, steal cars. However, I found myself slowing losing interest as the game progressed and before I completed 20% of the game, I decided that it just wasn't fun.

Sure, you can do all sorts of new things not possible in the previous games, but that over-the-top drive to rule the city (or state as the case may be!), stealing & killing your way to the top has been replaced with a morality that has changed the flavour of the game and made it... dreary.

Needless to say, I sold this on and am now looking forward to playing some new games (Fable 2, Fallout 3, Far Cry 2) for their escapism and thrills, not for their bleak and depressing take on the life of a criminal trying to make an honest dollar, but failing at every turn.

I'm sure this game will appeal to loads of realism-junkies and teenagers who will love stealing cars and beating to people to death with a baseball bat. It's just not my cup of tea.

Perhaps Saints Row 2 would tempt me, if this had not left such a sour taste in my mouth.

2 out of 5 stars gta 4   September 16, 2008
i was hugely disappointed by this game because even though it's step forward in graphical terms it's a massive step back in game play and to be honest i just found it all a bit of a chore. the humour you had in 'vice city' has disappeared and the freedom you had in 'san andreas' has been limited to cityscapes and not the rambling countryside you could spend hours exploring away from the main game, overall this game isn't what it should be and i sold my copy after only one playthrough (i still own and play all the others).

I'd rather play San Andreas again than this average game. Considering the power of the Xbox 360 i would say rockstar have hit a reverse gear. GTA IV is absolutley nowhere near the level of playability that SA had. What happened the aim??? GTA always had aiming isues when it came to shooting/killing folk, but with GTA IV the aiming has gone right back to square one. It's hopeless.

The missions are unbelivably samey. I can't really see a huge difference in graphics from previous versions of GTA either.

All in all, the game seems rushed with nowhere near the amount of thought gone into it as previous versions.

Disappointed.

3 out of 5 stars A masterpiece in hype   August 15, 2008
Choppy framerates and boring missions. still full of the annoying "quirks" that have plagued previous incarnations, such as awkward aiming.
an average, over-hyped game.
