3 out of 5 stars Microsoft's second outing   May 27, 2008

Some consumers may already feel shortchanged when Microsoft decided to move to focus on the 360 with the Xbox having not been around that long. The main problem that seems to have surfaced with Microsoft's latest console is its reliabilty.

Many people have had to return the console with the well known Red Ring Of Death issue. The 360 now has a new falcon motherboard which supposedly allieviates the issue but only time will tell. Without a doubt the 360's build quality is not as good as its competitors plus the fact it's so noisy which will drive some people mad.

The games are good with the likes of Halo 3, Mass Effect and others. That is one of the advantages of the system with some top titles being available thanks to its longer time on the market. Plus you have the best online service in Xbox Live. Yes, you do get your fair share of idiots which is a shame but don't let them spoil your fun.

The Xbox 360 is a good console but has the most uncertainty hanging over it. Will Microsoft ditch it soon to compete with blu-ray and take care of reliablity issues? Who knows, but the other two consoles are definitely safer bets if you want a console to last you longer. If you don't get a 360 the only thing you're really missing is Live so if online gaming isn't your thing the 360 isn't worth bothering with.

have had my 360premium for about a month now have never really wanted one until gta 4 came out but have now realised what ive been missin out on.Already have a ps2 and wii bu8t having got a HD tv a couple of months ago decided it was time to try hd gaming.Glad i did i love it the pic and sound is top notch and even tho the wii is ace its totally different gaming to the 360,since i got it ive got gta 4 and r6v2 and there both awesome to look at and play.
only bad thing i can think of is when you use the 360 for watching dvds it runs very loud(but then again if i want to watch a dvd ill watch it on a dvd player!)
fantastic games machine really chuffed with it!

1 out of 5 stars Major hardware problem in these premium consoles.!!   May 18, 2008

Hi as an avid xbox and pc gamer the xbox360 seemed a good buy but recently I have had a major hardware failure (known as the 3 flashing lights of death), and recently found out this is a major known problem in these consoles. 1 out of 3 people are experiencing this problem (my friends too!). The major fault being (of 3) that the motherboard in this console gets so hot the memory actually seperates from the board and causes the failure, the other faults being heat related too. The console simply gets too hot inside that it cant get any flow of air in fast enough for cooling. The xbox elite has a new "fix" on the board that stops this, but what about the premium/core owners/buyers?
Microsoft has announced that they have extended there warranties because of the faults. In other words this is a badly designed console that will die on you because of the admitted flaw!!
Absoultely fuming now, i have no console and have to wait for the 4 weeks+ turnaround to get it back.

5 out of 5 stars The gamers' choice   May 17, 2008

The Xbox 360 has now firmly established itself as the gamers' choice. It has a built a nice little library of games for itself, from Halo 3 to Gears of War to the frankly amazing Bioshock. There is no console out there better for games than the Xbox 360. It's worth getting for games like Mass Effect alone.

At the same time, the Xbox 360 is also the best net console, with the online gameplay far superior to its competitors. The graphics are fantastic and, so far, have outdone the PS3. The gamepad, in my opinion, loses out to the PS3 because you either need a lot of batteries or need to buy a separate charger.

Now for the bad news and it is something that cannot be overstated. This console seems like it's about to blow up anytime. It's so loud it's like having a mini helicopter in your room and your eyes keep looking at it half expecting those three red lights to come on and for your console to be rendered useless. I cannot understand how Microsoft have managed to botch up so many of these machines. Bad design. Bad production.

But for all that you cannot help but feel like the Xbox 360 is a must. The games are fantastic, the graphics are great, the sound quality superb, the online play is unmatched, just make sure you wear the headset when playing games so you won't hear the noise! And now the price has gone down so there is no real reason for you not to own one.
