REPLACEMENT FOR NANO 2GB THAT DIED, NO PROBLEMS WITH THE OLD ONE UNTIL IT DIED. HOPE THIS ONE DOES NOT GO THE SAME WAY, IF NOT IT'S A BRILLIANT LITTLE NEAT PACKAGE

2 out of 5 stars My Mobile Phone Sounds Better   July 3, 2008

I got my iPod Nano for free along with a mobile phone and thought I was getting a great deal. If I'm honest neither were that great at playing music and the phone was given to my girlfriend.

I have an old Sony Ericson k750i and loved the mp3 playback. The sound quality was superb but it was a drain on my battery if used for a while.

I thought with the iPod that this issue would be resolved and with everyone saying how good they were I felt confident that this was the answer.

The first time I played any music in my iPod I was shocked at how poor the sound quality is. It sounds very very tinny and there is almost no bass. There is an EQ function built in, that means you can switch between poor sound to really bad sound to not so bad that you want to shove a needle into your ears.

My phone had a small number of settings for the mp3 player but it was all you needed, it was loud, clear and with an impressive bass boost it sounded very good indeed. The iPod has been nothing more than a gimmick for people who are interested only in how things look.

Yes the iPod is "pretty" but it is not worth paying money for. I would urge anyone who wants to buy this to think very hard before handing over money. If you buy a less well known brand that does not mean it won't be as good as an iPod, in fact you will most likely find that you'll save money and get a better product.

There are loads of people who say the poor sound is down to the headphones with the iPod but this is not the case.

Using the iPod headphones I listened to a track on my laptop, I then listened to the same track on the iPod and it was like night and day. The iPod was very crackly at high volume and the treble was way too high. On my laptop it sounded clean and clear. There was a very obvious difference between the two.

I'm lucky as I didn't have to pay for my iPod but trust me, it's a massive let down after all the hype.

5 out of 5 stars my first ipod and i love it   June 25, 2008

I've just bought this ipod and I love it. It's the first ipod i've had and i can't believe that some people are saying that it's fat! It is the tiniest thing I have ever seen. The screen is beautifully clear for watching tv programmes, looking at photos and even seeing the cover flow of the album covers. The sound quality is absolutely amazing. I've been listening to mine through a guitar amplifier and it is just so marvellous. Also bought a Belkin TuneTalk to use to make recordings and the battery in the ipod held up to record three hours of a karaoke night, all of which sounds great. Would recommend this device to anyone.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent Product, however....   May 31, 2008

I purchased my Ipod Nano about 2 weeks ago thinking that it was a must have gadget! The new ipod is brilliant! The screen is really bright and clear and the touch wheel is very good, maybe a bit too sensitive. The only downfall with it is the sound quality. I listen to quite a lot of dance music and the bass on the headphones given is not that good. I could go out and buy some better headphones, but apple (being a well known, quality brand) should provide them with the ipod).

Apart from the headphones, everything is in good working order and the sleek, shiny design is really nice. I also bought a Full shield body protector which is the same as a screen protector that just fits completely over the front and back of the ipod. This is invisible and keeps your ipod safe; I would recommend this as you don't even realize that you have a case/protector on!

5 out of 5 stars Simply superb   May 29, 2008

Tiny entertainment centre that you can take anywhere.
Not the best sound quality, but then you would not expect it to be studio quality at this price.
You have 22 Graphic EQ settings (23 if you count the off setting) so you can get pretty close to your ideal sound concept.
The screen quality is superb with no dead or stuck pixels.
I was unlucky originally to get one with a technical problem but full marks to Amazon for sorting out a replacement in record time.
You do need to buy a charger if you are travelling away from your PC and also a connecting cable if you want to use it with your TV or Audio system.
It's good, it's fun and i would definitely recommend buying one.
