5 out of 5 stars Wonderful, heart warming read....   September 28, 2008

The front cover of this book really leads you to believe it is going to be a sugary sweet chick lit sort of book, which it is not. At its heart it is about the raw emotions of betrayal, and devastation at the loss of a husband. This is an unputdownable and passionate novel about a woman getting back on her feet and battling with the world after the painful betrayal of her husband. From the first few pages your heart is with Rose, you are willing her on like she is your own best friend. She has been betrayed by her own best friend and colleague, Minty who has had an affair with her husband Nathan. She lands up losing her husband, her job and her home. She fights this in the best way that she can, not through pure revenge, but by shedding her previous life, rising above it all as best she can and taking a new route in life, the 'could have been' if she had not married Nathan.

Every woman will be moved by this heart warming novel. It is unputdownable and when you finish it you really miss it.

4 out of 5 stars Separation, Divorce and Recovery   April 8, 2008
Nothing particularly exciting or memorable about this novel but as Elizabeth Buchan is a writer of such a high standard it held my attention. It was an enjoyable and easy read.

47 year old Rose Lloyd is stunned when Nathan her husband of over twenty years tells her he has been having an affair and has decided to leave her for the other woman. Having not even suspected her husband it is a real shock to discover that the other woman is Minty her work colleague. It gets worse because she looses her job, her beloved cat dies and as a final blow Nathan decides that he wants the family home for himself and Minty to live in!

During reading the book the title did not seem quite relevant but once you reach the ending it becomes clear. Satisfactory revenge!

4 out of 5 stars formulaic but satisfying   August 27, 2007

I read Elizabeth Buchan's books when I want to disappear into a perfectly crafted separate world where a story develops predictably and concludes as expected. Revenge of the Middle-Aged Woman is certainly formulaic, but very enjoyable and a recommended read.

3 out of 5 stars Utterly predictable   March 2, 2006

Not badly written but not a whiff of revenge - the title must have been the product of the promotion department - and oh so predictable.

Really enjoyed this book. I have a habit of starting books and never getting round to finishing them - with this book, I couldn't put it down. Excellently written - thoroughly recommend.
