So far so good! July 2, 2008 I bought a copy of this book on recommendation from one of my collegues on the PGCE course and I'm in the midst of reading it. I'm finding it hard to put down and I've not skipped any pages so far! It will even challenge what you or experienced teachers might think of as 'good practice'. There is a real emphasis here on creative approaches to teaching along side analytical ones, ensuring that students see the point of learning and have a need to find out more.
This book offers some very useful advice on English teaching from Shakespeare and poetry to planning and classroom management. It also has some nifty little ideas for approaching texts and engaging students.
Trevor Wright is OBV a brill English teacher February 27, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful

Invaluable for trainees and experienced teachers alike May 29, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I am reading this book in preparation for an English PGCE, and I'm finding it hard to put down. It's written in a way that makes it throughly enjoyable as well as informative, as it's packed with quotations and anecdotes. The book is a little pricey, but well worth the money if, as I'm sure they will, Trevor Wright's experience and insight are going to help me to teach even nearly as creatively and effectively as he writes.
Invaluable, especially to us still in training! April 22, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I found this book to be packed full of excellent practical advice which has already come in useful. Everything in this book is designed to be put into use in the classroom, unlike many other similar books which give nothing more than theoretical ideas which have more than a few dependent factors.
Trevor Wright will help you to put those ideas you have for your class/lesson into practice and show you how to make an ordinary lesson into a brilliant lesson. I highly recommend it.
