Product Description
The possibilities are endless with the sixth generation of the Apple?s legendary iPod range, the iPod classic. Following on from the fifth generation iPod, the iPod classic has all the same functions as its predecessor, but with an improved, easier-to-use interface. In keeping with the iPod tradition, the iPod classic has both audio and video functions, a very large storage capacity and unprecedented battery life, all packed into a stylish, 100% metal case. Its 80 GB memory holds up to 20,000 music tracks and is the ideal solution for saving your favourite digital entertainment applications. Plus, it delivers great sound quality and has a 2.5? LCD screen for your listening and viewing pleasure. The interface now features the Cover Flow function, which displays all the album covers of each music track, making it very easy to flip through your entire library. Of course, the iPod classic can also play Podcasts, audio books and video games (available for download from the iTunes Store). Finally, the slimline and lightweight iPod classic has an unbelievable 30 hours of battery life when fully charged (in music mode)! The iPod classic is sure to sweep you off your feet!

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant Service...... as always   July 4, 2008
I ordered my Ipod Classic 80gb in Black, in time for my birthday. Looking over the reviews I saw that some people had had some delays with their items arriving, so I ordered it a good month in advance. I also had next day delivery, to limit the damage that it might recieve through the post.

I was stupid to have thought it would be late. Amazon have brilliant service and you can literally buy anything from them, my ipod was late but only becasue it had been delivered to my next door neighbour as I was out and he had gone to work. I was thoroughly impressed with all aspects of Amazons service and when I rang to complain about my Ipod not arriving they could not have been more helpful, I rang my local sorting office and like I said my neighbour had taken it in.

Brillian product, Brilliant service and 20 cheaper than Apple direct.

4 out of 5 stars A few issues.....ipod plays part of song then skips to next   July 3, 2008
I finally gave into the calling of the ipod after much resistance for many years of staying loyal to my faithful iriver. The lure of 80g of space for the price and the smaller ipod persuaded me.
Although I do like the ipod, since I've had it does seem to have taken up lots of time trying to sort out issues. First I decided I didn't want to use itunes and would use MediaMonkey instead to manage my vast collection of MP3 files. My first issue was that I had to install itunes because the ipod would not show the album art. I had to go into itunes and untick the album art option exit it and go back in and re-check the option. Then album art displayed on the ipod, I thought my problems were over.....Nope. I did decide to do a software update while in itunes and it would seem maybe this would be the cause of my further problem. I discovered when I was listening to my songs ipod randomly on some songs played part of it then skipped to the next one. These songs worked fine on my iriver and most were ripped to MP3 from my cd collection. After much investigation I have now discovered if I select in MediaMonkey to convert my MP3 file to MP3(madness) then synch back to the ipod then use the rebuild database option for ipod in mediamonkey low and behold the song then plays........Now all I have to do is do this for my entire collection of songs all 40 gigs of it!!
Other than that overall I do like the ipod clasic its battery seems to last well I like seeing my album art and being able to find songs quite quickly and easily. But I just wish it was as easy as the drag and drop no problems option I had with my iriver. But I guess no pain no gain.

5 out of 5 stars Impressed - Better Than I Thought   July 1, 2008
I've avoided the Ipod for some years as the early experience with battery life/replacement and the Itunes 'restrictions', plus the cost at the time were enough for me to go alternative and use the Zen series (had the Jukebox and the Zen Micro ). Entirely happy with the Zen but ultimately the last one packed in.
After much study of the reviews and forums I eventually took the plunge and got the Classic 80Gb despite still have some concerns.

All I can say after nearly a month of use is that I am very pleased with the Ipod - nicely made, great display and I've found the Itunes software pretty good as well - in fact not a lot different from the Creative equivalent.
I have not got an Itunes account, I don't D/L Itunes, only install existing Mp3 or rip using Itunes software. Get covers from Google/Wikipedia and install manually using Itunes Info and they work a treat.

The volume aspect is a mystery - I'm not in the first 'flush of youth' and my hearing has been through a fair amount of abuse but by using the settings options as described and increasing the max volume available it it certainly more than loud enough.
I've installed a protective screen after the comments on scratching - which is fine and the screen is very clear and bright - watching video is excellent.
Yes it does show fingerprints, so I've got a cheap external case which elimates that problem and gives additional protection - OK at the cost of making the Ipod a bit more cumbersome - but I can stuff it in any bag/pocket/case without worry and I'm way past worrying about 'fashion' accessories!
I can't comment on the 'quality' of the sound - it is more than suitable for my listening and compares favourably with the Zen series, but I am using earphones, not the 'buds'.

Overall I am pleased my Ipod and recommend it as the storage capacity/cost is the best around and it is a great piece of engineering and that is praise indeed from a former Ipod 'cynic'!

I bought the ipod classic after i sent my nano 8gb back in disgust, originally i bought the nano because of its size and the fact that it says it holds upto 4000 tracks depending on the format, now i'm no computer expert but when someone says 4000 depending on the format i would expect the amount to be somewhere near that figure, however when i got it home and loaded it i had less than 1965 songs on it which i was not happy about so it went straight back.So then i ordered the ipod classic 80 gb,now this gizmo is quite a bit bigger but i cant really complain about that because the memory is huge and they dont make any secrets about the size of these things so people always know what they are buying.i don't find the control knob as sensitive as it was on the nano either.but on the whole this is an exellent little machine. The only place where this thing loses points is the earphones that come with it are rubbish so i've bought some bose ones and the other thing is itunes is rubbish annoying hard to use and i hate it.

5 out of 5 stars Don't think buy!!!!!!   June 28, 2008
When I was looking at iPods on here I wasn't sure after reading all the negative reviews but when it arrived I was truely amazed. The build quality is fantastic, the sound quality is superb and the looks are stunning. The only bad things about it is that the back scratches quite easily and the headphones apple supply are rubbish. Other than that BRILLIANT
