Having recently reviewed Blood and Granite, a similar book concerning murder in my home town of Aberdeen where I was actually aquainted with one of the murderers, can you imagine my disbelief when I read this similar book concerning Edinburgh, where I lived for many years, to discover that an Edinburgh murderer had been a zealous suitor of mine in my youth. Thank goodness I did not take him seriously or you might be reading about me.
This is an interesting book, especially to those who are aquainted with the geography of the place and can visualise the scenarios. The author very correctly has omitted more recent crimes for the sake of the feelings of the people personally involved. Some of these newer homicides warrant volumes all to themselves. No doubt some will be written and likely already have been.
A gruesome subject, nevertheless it was a most satisfactory read, especially if you can say "I remember that".
