Thoroughly engaging! October 4, 2008 I absolutely loved this book. It is written well, and as a previous reviewer said, each chapter can be read in its own right as a mini story/birth experience. I will be honest I wasn't really expecting this to be a good read in its own right, more an insight into Midwifery, but it was both, I would definately recommend it!
A wonderful book October 2, 2008 As a student midwife I am constantly looking for books about my career choice. Although this is from an American midwife, a country which has a different health care system it is still a wonderful read. Midwifery is all about caring for women and their families at a very important and special time in their lives, which is certainly the main focus of the book. Highly recommended
Insight ..... June 14, 2007 Wow ... What a fab read ... I came across this boock after being acepted to start training as a Midwife but found It would have been really useful before the interview process... Although being a bit dated and about the trails and tribulations of Midwifery in the US it is a fantastic heart warming book which gets back to basics of pergnancy and birth. The basic and honest style in which it is written is really lovely. I would really recomend it .
Amazing and interesting in many ways! February 24, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have just read this book and thouroughly enjoyed it, I just couldn't put it down! It's the story of a woman who began off as a helping nurse in the hospital and gradually began to realise that her real future and career was in home-birth. It contains riveting stories of many different women in labour and giving birth as well as other stories involved in midwifery and a midwifes life. This book can be enjoyed by expecting mothers, midwifes or anyone who is interested in this amazing subject. I definetly reccomend it!
Interesting holiday read March 25, 2006 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This book was great for reading a bit of and putting back down as each chapter was a mini story in itself. Anyone who has children, wants children or has an interest in the miracle that is childbirth will love this story of laughter and tears.
